If you asked Ruth Larson’s now grown adult children what she does for a living, they would probably tell you that for as long as they can remember, Ruth has been a professional meeting attender...

which doesn’t quite capture it, but it comes pretty close.

Ruth began her time in public service in January 2006 on the WJCC School Board, where she served for 10 years. In January 2016, she moved onto the James City County Board of Supervisors, where she remains—at least until the next election. Ruth represents the JCC BOS on the School Liaison Committee and the Tourism Council, where she is chair of the Visit Williamsburg Board.

Ruth also is currently president of the Virginia Association of Counties, a position that provides her the opportunity to travel the Commonwealth representing VACo members and local governments.

While Ruth maintains she has no dancing talents other than a mean "mom dance," she's a huge fan of the TV show "Dancing with the Stars." She and her youngest daughter enjoyed seeing the traveling show last year in Richmond. Her goals of participating in the Williamsburg show are to not embarrass her family too much and to raise money for an important cause.

Ruth is also involved in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, Chamber Board of Directors and her neighborhood book club—and she tries her best on the pickleball court when she can get the time to play. The most important thing she enjoys doing is spending time with her husband of 38 years, Craig, and their kids and kids-in-law: Rob, Elli, Caroline, Matt, Abby and Scott... and of course, the star of the family, grandson Luke.

Ruth was born in Williamsburg and said she's grateful for all this community has provided for her and her family... and she hopes she won’t trip on stage.
