Frequently Asked Questions
What should I wear to the show?
Anything you want! Most years, guests arrive in anything from jeans and T-shirt to semi-formal attire. If you like getting dressed up, though, this is a great opportunity for a real "night on the town." Many people like to go out for a nice dinner beforehand (but be sure your server knows you need to be out in time!).

What makes these dancers "stars"?
Our "stars" are prominent locals, meaning they are standouts in the community. That could mean they are elected officials, business owners, civic leaders or media personalities. Even if you haven't heard of them, we encourage you to cheer wildly for everyone, since this is a difficult feat for them all.

How long is the show?
About two hours, with an intermission in the middle. Judging and awards take place at the end.

Will the be concessions?
Yes. Beer, wine, soda and snacks will be available for sale before the show and during intermission.

Do the judges say negative things about the dancers?
No! The is a praises-only event, meant to uplift everyone in the room—stars, dance pros, and audience. The judges will focus on the strengths of each performance.
What are the "exhibition" dances?
To further enhance the show, we invite a few local groups to perform as well... this can include a girls' competition dance troupe or a number from an upcoming high school musical. Additionally, pairs of dance pros will often perform a piece. Many of these are at the end of the show, while the judges are making their decisions.

If I bought tickets, isn't that enough of a donation?
We certainly appreciate your ticket purchase, and it helps a lot! That said, tickets are a transaction and not a donation. Many guests and non-guests choose to also support their favorite dancers with a donation. And when you make a gift, that amount (unlike your ticket) is tax deductible, as allowed by law, because Dancing with the Williamsburg Stars is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit in its own right. All proceeds from the show are distributed to our two recipient charities.
