Tracey Wright

Director at VPCC Historic Triangle Campus
Partner: Louis Mendoza
Tracey Wright is a native of Dickson, Tennessee, and proudly calls Chester, Virginia, home.
She is married to Dr. Tommy Wright and is the proud mother of two adult daughters, Jayma Holt Moore and Jaynae Wright. Tracey credits much of the success she has been blessed to experience to the wisdom and guidance of her grandfather, James Bartlett, who taught her the enduring lesson that it is important to “put something in your head, for it is something no one can ever take from you.” That philosophy has remained a guiding principle throughout her life. A lifelong lover of the arts, Tracey enjoys spending time with family and friends, dancing for fun, attending live theater and music performances, visiting museums, reading, traveling, cooking, entertaining, volunteering, and supporting causes about which she is passionate.
Professionally, Tracey began her career as a mathematics teacher in Dickson and Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Her career in higher education began at Middle Tennessee State University, where she served as an Area Coordinator. She later joined Appalachian State University, beginning as Assistant Director of Multicultural Affairs and progressing to Director of Multicultural Student Development, a role she held for seven years before becoming Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Development. A return to Tennessee brought Tracey to the role of Director of Community Relations and Special Programs. She
later served as Dean of Student Affairs and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging at Emory & Henry College’s Health Sciences Campus.
Before being selected as Director of Campus and Community Initiatives at the Historic Triangle Campus of Virginia Peninsula Community College, Tracey built a career centered on education, student development, community engagement, and creating opportunities for others to thrive. Across every chapter of her personal and professional journey, she has remained committed to learning, serving, connecting people, and making a positive difference in the communities she calls home.
Tracey’s appreciation for the arts began during her high school years, when she stepped outside her comfort zone and auditioned for roles in school plays—an experience that gave her what she fondly calls the “theater bug.” In college, she participated in a ballet performance, marking the last time she danced onstage in front of an audience. Since then, she has remained an enthusiastic supporter of the arts, whether attending an opera or Broadway production at the Altria Theater or enjoying a production at Virginia Peninsula Community College’s Mary T. Christian Theatre. Although she loves to dance at social gatherings, stepping into the spotlight as a participant in Dancing with the Williamsburg Stars is definitely outside her comfort zone. Still, she is embracing the challenge with enthusiasm and determination, hoping to make her professional dancer, family friends, and colleagues proud while supporting two incredible community resources through this important event.
